We have decided to drop Weapons Mastery from our game. It's cool and lets you do some fun stuff, but it also de-simplicates the game, and I prefer to simplicate when I can.

I think that's a great idea for just the reason you mentioned. We used it at first but eventually dropped it in our games as well.

Yeah, you can do some cool stuff with Weapons Mastery, but it is (in my opinion) outweighed by the crunch factor. I feel the same way about my Mystic's acrobatics. Cool, but he's used it maybe three times - and it applies a -20% adjustment to his experience.
I am too into "Simplicate and add Cool"

I have never really played with Weapons Mastery (I think) and have never really liked the sound of it, either. To me the most important thing is just to interact with the game world. I don't need or want that much fine knowledge of...*snore*.
But that's just me. In any case, simple+cool sounds great to me.

Weapon Mastery as described in The Mystaran Armoury is simple. I dig it.

I am too into "Simplicate and add Cool" I have never done anything with Weapons Mastery, but it always seemed to be you could just incorporate it into leveling up as a Fighting-Man with a focus on a specific weapon for several levels. Maybe focus on your Longsword for 4 levels and then focus on your Longbow for 4 levels or vice versa.
