OK...
I have been watching the trailers for the Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, and I do not feel compelled to watch it. The true fans of Tolkien probably had a hard enough time with the movies. I can only imagine what they are going to think about the series. For me, the trailers don't really tell me much. They are just "Person-> Thing happens" without much context. I'm not very wrapped up in the whole skin-color thing 'cuz I don't care. They had boats in Middle Earth, so people could get around... They just need to make a good story and I'll be shocked and surprised.

It looks like fan fiction with a very high budget to me. I know it's "an adaptation" and there WILL be changes and alterations. This just feels like several steps too far.

I will give it a try, just like I did for Star Trek: Discovery (sucked) and Star Trek:Strange New Worlds (not bad...), She Hulk (sucked), and Raised by Wolves (which I loved... makes no sense at all, but I loved it).

Have no desire to see even a minute of it.
Now, if they took 1/100th of the money they spent writing this and gave it to a struggling writer and said "do the best original fantasy script you can, you have one month"...that I would watch.
No idea why Middle-Earth needs to be run into the ground. Are there no other ideas?
Of course there are. But they would rather make this because it generates its own hype and core audience. That means this isn't art, just money-grubbing.
YMMV...

Ok, watched the trailer. I'll be honest. This looks like a piece of junk, every aspect of which was phoned in by a very bored costume designer / writer / cinematographer / whoever.
I couldn't see a thing that looked like it differed in any meaningful way from generic fantasy whatever. The clothes, sets, retread villain, bits of dialogue, voiceover blah blah...no one would have known this was ME without the proper names that tell you (Sauron, Tolkien...).
Why? Why? Just $.
If anyone sees it and recommends it, I will gladly learn better.

I gave Star Trek: Discovery a chance. I watched the first 3 seasons of STD just to say I gave it more than a fair shake. Well, you can polish a turd all you want BUT it's still a turd. I just couldn't stomach anymore. ST: Strange New World is something I'm very interested in but haven't watched yet. TOS remains my favorite Trek and more Pike stories is something I've always wanted. I'm hopeful and optimistic from the trailers and previews I've seen.

If anyone sees it and recommends it, I will gladly learn better. I feel like several television and movie franchises I used to enjoy have gone off the rails. When the "official" entries no longer satisfy me, I look into fan films. I've watched a ton of them from Star Wars to Friday the 13th. Granted, the budget might not compare BUT the stories are often better and more in line with what many fans want. There's a Reverse Flash: Origins series on youtube that has two completed seasons and a third is on the way, I believe. Several of the Friday the 13th fan films bring back established characters (like Tommy Jarvis or the bounty hunter Creighton Duke) and add to their stories while also having call backs and shout outs to other fan films to add to the mythology and make it more cohesive. That's just two but there are a ton more from Star Trek, Judge Dredd, Spawn, etc. that are worthwhile. It might scratch an itch for you...

I did give LoTR:TRoP a try.
I made it about five minutes before I turned it off and picked up a book. I will say it is somewhat better than Velma.
