Updating Magic Users (and Clerics and Elves)
Mr. Gygax really did not seem to like Magic in his game. The result was that lower-level Magic Users are pretty lame. To address that, I let Clerics, Magic Users, and Elves use Mana to cast spells.
MANA (+ WIS BONUS) PER LEVEL
CLERIC: 1d2
MAGIC USER: 1d4
ELF: 1d2
Spells cost their level in mana pts to cast, so a level 2 spell would cost 2 Mana Points to use.
This means that a 3rd level Magic User would have an average of 6 Mana, and could cast 6 level 1, or 3 level 2 (etc…) spells per day.
Mana recovers at a rate of:
► 1 MP (+WIS adj) per XP Level/night of rest
