Natural 20 A roll of 20 on 1d20 (without adjustments) is a “Natural 20”. When a player rolls a natural 20 in combat his character does double damage by rolling the damage die and adding in all appropriate adjustments and multiplying the result by two. We all do that, right?

In college back in the 70s, if we rolled a natural 20, we rolled again and on a second natural 20 whatever it was, was dead.

Once an NPC balrog met a 7th level Fighting Man in a doorway and they double 20'd each other the first melee round. I run combat as simultaneous and you have things like that happen now and then.

I run combat as simultaneous and you have things like that happen now and then. That's a pretty good way to derail a carefully planned adventure. Fortunately, none of my adventures are very well planned out.
